Ohio To Offer More Expensive Maternity Leave Benefits Than FMLA Requires
The Oct. 26, 2007, New York Times reported that Ohio will become the 19th state to offer more expansive leave requirement than the FMLA requires. Specifically, Ohio is expected to enact a regulation providing that employers with 4 or more employees provide 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave. The FMLA does not strictly grant 12 weeks off simploy because an employee is on maternity leave. Additionally, the FMLA only applies to employers with 50 or more employees.
